Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Gen (Genevieve) Townsend is a visual artist and facilitator in arts and advocacy spaces. She was born in Frankston and lives in Melbourne on the lands of the Wurundjeri, Boon wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin nation. Having studied Sociology, Gen makes use of research tools and facilitation techniques in her installations, soft-sculptures, and events. Her practice involves play to ease into vulnerable reflections and challenging conversations. In addition, Gen employs satire in attempts to poke and shift - within herself and the community – issues surrounding structural and ingrained racism, neoliberalism, and harmful individualism. She is currently one of five Artists in Residence at Yarra Youth Services, Fitzroy.
